Know Your Orbit Exchange Limits Before You Stake

The slip names the limit and gives no stake amount. Here is what each message says, and who answers.

Orbit Exchange shows its limits as messages on the slip, and the stake messages print no amount. Among them are one for a stake below the minimum, one for a stake above the maximum, two for odds bounds, one for an exposure limit and one for a loss limit. Of those, only the exposure message tells you to contact your agent. The stake that is matched is also whatever the market offers at your price. Start with the code at the front of the message: the table below says which limit it is.

The messages Orbit can show, one by one

The slip says "more than the maximum allowed". It does not say what the maximum is.

Below are the messages that bear on a limit, or look like one, in the wording of Orbit's interface. A code at the front, a sentence behind it, no stake amount anywhere. What Orbit Exchange is shows the screen they appear on.

What each Orbit message says and who it names
CodeWhat the text saysWhat it limitsNames your agent?
EX013"The stake(s) you have entered are below the minimum allowed."Stake size, no amount givenNo
EX014"The stake(s) you have entered are more than the maximum allowed."Stake size, no amount givenNo
EX017"The minimum odds are {min}. Your odds have been updated accordingly."A price floor; the text has a slot for the boundNo
EX021"The maximum odds are {max}. Your odds have been updated accordingly."A price ceiling; same slotNo
EX010"Please note that you have reached your exposure limit. Please contact your agent."ExposureYes
EX011"Please note that you have reached maximum loss limit of funds for the current period."Loss over a period, no amount givenNo
EX009"Your account has been suspended. Please contact your agent if you have any queries"Account state, not a limitYes
EX007, EX019"There was an error processing your bet(s) due to the lack of funds in your account. Please contact your agent."BalanceYes
EX022The same sentence, with "to cover the transaction charge" after "your account"Balance for the chargeYes
EX015"The bet placement contains a back and a lay for the same selection at overlapping prices."Not a limit: your own back and lay clashNo
EX020"Please check the status of your bet in My bets or contact your agent." (it opens by saying the bet took longer than expected)Not a limit: a slow betYes

Read the code first. EX016 and EX018 are left out because they are steps, not limits (a stake must be a multiple of a set increment, and odds move in set steps). Of the limit messages in the table, EX010 is the only one that names your agent. EX011, EX013, EX014, EX017 and EX021 name nobody.

Refused and partly matched are different things

A partly matched bet is a live offer: part of it has takers, and the rest stays in the market until it is matched, cancelled or the market closes. A stake that EX014 turns away never becomes an offer, so nothing waits in the market and nothing needs cancelling.

What Liability on the slip tells you, worked through on two lays

Take a bettor with a position to build over a weekend: two lays in one market, a third leg to come. Before sending money anywhere, the useful thing to know is who answers when the screen says no.

Liability is the total risk of your bets on that market in the worst case. Total Liability is what you stand to lose, Liability plus the charge; how the charge is added has the detail. What a lay puts at risk has the arithmetic for a single lay.

A lay, a second lay, one worst case

Say you have laid two selections in the same market (the prices are made up). First lay: £110 at 7.40, liability 110 × 6.40 = £704.00. Second lay: £65 at 11.00, liability 65 × 10.00 = £650.00.

If the first selection wins, you lose £704.00 and collect £65.00: £639.00 down. If the second wins, you lose £650.00 and collect £110.00: £540.00 down. If neither wins, you collect both stakes: £175.00 up. The worst case is £639.00 down (before commission). The two liabilities add up to £1,354.00.

Same two lays, two numbers. £639.00 is the worst case for this pair, which is what the slip calls Liability, while £1,354.00 is only the two liabilities added together, a figure that no result of this market can produce, because whichever of the two selections wins, the other lay still collects its stake.

Does Orbit limit winners?

Orbit's home page says it places no restrictions on bettors who win often or stake big. No message in the table talks about winnings or how often you win. The brokers' own sentences on winners, and the money and winnings caps in their terms, are on the hub on stake caps. How each kind of place treats winners has its own page.

Who answers when the screen names your agent

The chain runs market, Orbit's screen, agent, broker. An agent is the broker as the exchange sees it, so the last two are one company. Four brokers open Orbit Exchange, through three tools: OrbitX at AsianConnect, Sharp Exchange at BetInAsia and MadMarket, FairExchange at Sportmarket. The routes into Orbit Exchange lays them out, how the four brokers compare sets them side by side, and what a broker account opens lists the rest of what each account reaches.

EX010 tells you who to contact. It does not tell you who set the limit, and this page puts no amount on any link of the chain. The broker clauses on refusing, restricting or limiting a bet, and the money caps with their amounts, sit on the broader page on limits.

When a message appears

  1. Read the code

EX014 is a stake, EX010 is exposure, EX011 is loss.

  2. Read Liability and Total Liability

Liability is the worst case of your bets on that market; Total Liability adds the charge. The message does not say what the limit counts.

  3. Write to your broker if the message names your agent

Send the code and the market. EX010 is one of the codes that name your agent.

  4. Change the stake or the price if it is a stake or odds message

EX017 and EX021 print the bound and update your odds. EX013 and EX014 print no amount: try a larger stake after the first, a smaller one after the second.

What to ask before you deposit

Put these to the broker you are about to open (in writing, so the answer can be quoted back).

  1. Which exposure limit applies to my account, and how is it worked out?
  2. Does the maximum stake change by sport or market?
  3. Is the loss limit for a period set on my account, and how long is the period?
  4. Who answers when the screen names my agent, and how fast?
  5. Do the deposit and withdrawal caps in your terms apply to money moved for Orbit Exchange?

The fifth is about money, not bets: the page on payments has the methods. Next stops: the sign-up steps and how an exchange matches bets. If staking and long runs are the next question, the job-side roadmap works through them.

Questions about Orbit messages

What does the exposure limit message on Orbit Exchange mean?

It means EX010: the screen tells you that you have reached your exposure limit and to contact your agent.

Who do I contact when it appears?

The agent named in the message is the broker you opened the account through, seen from the exchange's side: AsianConnect, BetInAsia, MadMarket or Sportmarket. Write with the code and the market the bet was on.

Why does Orbit say my stake is above the maximum allowed?

The message says the stake you entered is more than the maximum allowed, and it gives no amount. Depth works differently: a stake bigger than the market offers at your price is matched in part, and the rest waits as an offer. How depth decides the stake covers that.

Is a refused stake the same as a bet that is only partly matched?

No. A refusal arrives as a coded message, EX013 or EX014 for a stake. A partly matched bet shows a status under My bets.

Are deposit and withdrawal limits part of this?

No. Those are money caps in a broker's terms, with their amounts in the table on the caps and winners page. The payments page covers moving the money.

How do I get a higher exposure limit?

The EX010 message names your agent and says nothing more about the limit. Write to your broker, quote the code and the market, and ask which exposure limit applies and how it is worked out (the questions to put to a broker have the rest).
